She likes picking up her camera because it allows her to see things through a different lens. Like when she lost her job recently and instead of focusing on what she’s forced to leave behind, she zooms in on the new options opening up in front of her. Or when a dangerous looking silver fox comes rolling up her path on a FatBoy, and her digital output shows a deep loneliness, matching her own, in his ice-blue eyes.
But when she's working on making her dreams come true, she inadvertently captures something in her viewfinder she can’t un-see.
He wasn’t supposed to be here, but he can’t seem to escape his old life. Stuck in an old trailer in the mountains, he walks a fine line between ruse and reality. With the arrival of a young-looking pixie—who turns out to be a full grown, hot-blooded woman—his balance is thrown.
He tries to avoid her, but with the little pixel peeper snapping everything in sight, she unintentionally risks his exposure.
And his focus needs to be sharp to keep her from danger.

I have this love/ hate relationship with novellas- I enjoy the quick read, but many times the story just isn't long enough for me to become fully invested in the characters. With Shutter Speed, I find myself teetering on that line and I am glad there will be more to Ben and Isla's story coming soon. (Note: this story does not have a cliffie)First- I love this cover! I had to look at it a few times to take it all in and notice all the nuances, but it fits the narrative perfectly.
Now on to the story. Isla has moved to her uncle's campground to be the caretaker for the season, and she is looking forward to exploring the area with her camera while she contemplates her future after recently losing her job. A creeptastic guy on one of the lots scares her a little bit but it doesn't stop her from trying to be friendly with others at the site. One in particular catches her eye, but he seems less than thrilled to talk to her.
Ben has a job to do, and the pixie trying to make friends with him is a distraction. He is a man of few words for a reason, but since his current job could potentially put anyone connected with him in the path of danger, he has even more reason to try to keep his distance. While Ben's conversation skills may be lacking, Isla more than makes up for it with her non stop chatter and he can't help being drawn to her. Once they actually get a little better at communicating, things heat up! But when one of her photo excursions captures more than she realizes, the danger becomes real and Ben's secrets are about to be exposed. Can she forgive his deception?
Ben is just the type of hero I have come to expect from this author- a mature, sexy alpha who has a way with his limited words. The jury is still out on Isla though. She is a bit different from most of the other heroines and has some characteristics that grated on my nerves to be honest. With that said, I have faith in Ms. Barker's ability to turn my opinion around in the upcoming Freeze Frame, and I will be waiting to see what comes next in the series!

Shutter speed Snapshot 05 edition by Freya Barker Karen Hrdlicka Romance eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed this story.
Isla is given an opportunity to fulfill her dream, and that is to take pictures. The way she sees things through her eyes is very interesting. Finding the beauty in every day things.
Ben is hiding secrets, but it unfolds as the story progresses nicely.
Great start to what I hope is a great series.
This was my introduction to Freya Barker, and I was *not* disappointed!
This novella is just perfect to whet your appetite. It's a complete standalone, that leaves you hoping to see more of these characters (spoiler alert... YOU WILL!)
You will run a gauntlet of emotion right alongside these characters. There's lust, suspense, happiness, sadness, and everything in between. This novella is a perfect introductio to the briliant writing style that is Freya Barker.
It was meant to be easy. Isla has promised to look after the camp ground how hard can it be? Little does she know that she will find danger and lots of trouble. Ben is not looking to hook up he has a job to do but Isla is a good looking woman and he is so tempted. But he knows that if he does one thing wrong the bad guys will be on her in a flash. Isla has no idea that she is about to get herself into a lot of trouble and luckily Ben is there to save her. But what will happen afterwards can they both move forward? A good read
A quick read that captured my attention from page 1. There was suspense, a little mystery and little lovin'. For a change the characters were middle aged rather than young and dumb. I really enjoyed the fact that their life experiences had already molded them into the people they are today. Their interactions were relatable and I enjoyed Isla's sharp tongue. Ben is a sexy undercover agent.
My curiosity is peeked and can't wait to see what else this series has in store for me!
4 plus stars. As usual freya barker does not disappoint, her stories are always well written and well thought out. (No spoilers) The h/H are not perfect and do face real challenges. Please note I was provided an arc prior to release, I have purchased a copy on release, well worth the money.
I obtained this free e-book from and I am voluntarily writing a review. This author is new to me and I freaking love her writing. Isla is a single almost 40 something free lance photographer hoping for a break when she agrees to be a camp manager in Colorado for her Uncle while he settles his wife into her Alzheimer's care facility. Ben is an undercover DEA agent on a assignment to take out the local meth lab operating out of a campground in Colorado. Isla keeps popping up in the middle of situations that require finesse to extract without drawing attention and blowing his cover.
Holy smokes!! What an exciting intro into the relationship between Isla and Ben...a tasty and thrilling romance with two very interesting people who are older than most romances but still very vibrant and sexually steamy.
This book has its cute and funny moments along with a very suspenseful and dangerous storyline...and I can't wait to dig into the next full-length book to find out what happens to this couple as they move forward in their relationship after the huge climax of the novella.
***** 4.5 ***** "shoot a pic and fall in love" stars
